You may be looking after a friend, relative or neighbour who is in need of help owing to their sickness, age or disability.  You are not alone - every day six thousand people take on a caring responsibility.  Carers Northern Ireland is the leading provider of information on all matters relating to caring.

The term  'carer' is often used to distinguish friends and family who provide care on an unpaid basis from professionals such as care workers, home helps and people employed by someone with a disability.
