Main Content: More flexibility, responsiveness and choice needed
An audit of Carers' Services in Northern Ireland that started in August 2007 has just reported. The final report, produced by Price Waterhouse Coopers, is an internal Health Service document, but the key findings and recommendations will not come as any surprise to carers and those who work with them.
The report found some good practice and some very committed staff within the health and social care trusts. However it identifies that there is a long way to go before carers get the flexible and responsive support they need. Echoing the recommendations of 'Caring for Carers', trusts are urged to improve information and training for carers, to make sure carers' assessments are offered and that unmet need is recorded, to improve the range of respite options and to get better at engaging carers.
Further details will be published here as they become available.
